Karnataka's first Waste-to-Energy (WTE) set up in Bidadi (Ramanagara Dt) likely to be inaugurated on 24th September 2024.
1. It is spread across 15 acres and has a capacity of 11.5 MW. It is being set up with a cost of Rs. 260 crore.
2. It is a joint project of the KPCL and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
3. The WTE plants usually use dry waste that ends up in the landfills.
a. Dry waste is burnt at a high temperature to ensure complete combustion and the heat generated is used to generate electricity.
b. It will process up to 600 tonnes of dry waste daily.
4. The plant, designed to reduce waste disposal issues, employs latest technology to minimise environmental pollution.
5. The construction of the Waste-to-Energy plant has been entrusted to consortium members ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd., Noida, and Hitachi Zosen India Pvt Ltd.
6. This consortium has successfully established a similar plant in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, which has been operational for the past four years.
